The Christmas for the Filipino Street Children
December 7th 2006 17:56
Christmas is just around the corner and everyone seems to be rushing to the malls and department stores to beat the Christmas rush. Gifts, food preparations and new attires are the immediate itineraries of most people, but the spirit of giving is not what the Yuletide Season is mainly about.
For some, the tradition of the family being together during this yearly celebration is one of the much awaited activities. Seeing the people who have set out on their own in the real world to follow dreams and careers makes memorable get-togethers one of the much awaited reunions that people can look forward to.
One thing that has caught my fancy is that of emphasizing on the spirit of giving and cheer. We are all aware that not all people are financially able and blessed with what we have right now. Street children and orphanages do not share the same joy and happiness that most intact and well-off families experience. For the people in the Philippines, setting aside a portion of their Christmas shopping itineraries and donating to a worthy cause is something that has been exercised in the recent years. This year is no different.
People of all ages are geared towards spreading the Yuletide feeling. Teenagers, young adults and elderly dedicate a portion of their time for a worthy cause. For these people, the feeling of making other people happy is more important rather than waiting for people to send in gifts for their personal satisfaction.
Happy Holidays to Everyone!
